Save energy, save money, save the environment
Can you afford to keep wasting energy?
Today the global threat of energy shortages, rising costs, and increasing legislation to curb harmful greenhouse gas emissions, such as the Carbon Reduction Commitment, make effective energy management a crucial issue for the success of any business.
For many, the answer is an Energy Management System (EnMS), a framework for the systematic management of energy. As well as enhancing energy efficiency, a third party certified EnMS can cut costs, cut carbon emissions, and enhance your reputation by demonstrating your commitment to sustainability.
BS ISO 50001 represents the latest international best practice in energy management, building upon existing national and regional standards and initiatives. The standard has been in development for a number of years with energy management experts, representing over 60 countries from across the world, coming together to establish the framework.
BS ISO 50001 will help you implement the processes necessary to understand their baseline energy usage, put in place action plans, targets and energy performance indicators for reducing consumption and identify, prioritise, and record opportunities for improving energy performance.
Already hundreds of businesses have benefitted from standards, publications, training, software, certification and many have proved their savings with the BSI Kitemark for Energy Reduction Verification.
Who is BS ISO 50001 Energy management system relevant to?
BS ISO 50001 is suitable for any organisation – whatever your size, sector or geographical location. It is particularly relevant if you operate in an energy intensive industry or one facing caps or carbon emissions regulation.
Being independently certified to BS ISO 50001 by BSI, an independent third-party, will be the ultimate assurance to your stakeholders that you have embedded your EnMS into your organisation, and comply with Energy Management best practice.

Certification is a valuable tool which you can use to demonstrate to your stakeholders that you meet the very latest energy management best practice.
We’re an accredited body ourselves, which ensures that we look at your management system from an independent angle, and our highly trained and experienced assessors bring their industry knowledge to bear to help you get the most out of BS ISO 50001 Energy management.
The Energy Management Assessment Process
The Energy management system (EnMS) assessment is conducted by one of our highly trained and experienced Client Managers who will have an excellent understanding of your business area and will support you as you move forward with the assessment and certification of your EnMS.
The assessment is typically conducted in two stages. The first stage will look at the top level policy, documentation, processes and procedures in place to manage your energy consumption and your Client Manager will identify any omissions or weaknesses that need resolving before the main assessment. The Client Manager will gain familiarity with your site and plan the next stage in detail. Stage Two of the assessment is focused on the effective implementation of the policy, documentation, processes and procedures and will involve discussions with all levels of staff within your organisation.
Subject to a successful Energy management assessment, a certificate of registration will be issued to demonstrate the scope of your activities, the locations covered, and the standard against which you have been assessed. The certificate will be valid for three years, and your assessor will visit you regularly to help you make sure you remain compliant, and support you in the continual improvement of your systems.
